NFL Quarterback House

Everyone loves making tiers and rankings for all kinds of things and NFL QBs are no different. After every NFL Sunday you will see all the talking heads discussing QB tiers. Today we are going to put the Going Off Topic spin on the QB tier system.

The ultimate goal for every professional athlete is to reach the Hall of Fame and be enshrined as one of the best players ever. Currently we might be in the golden age of the NFL quarterback and I am sure we will see a lot of these names in the Hall of Fame when it’s all said and done. Instead of your typical tier system you can find on any website, I had the idea to create a “room system” where QBs progress throughout their career with the Hall of Fame as the career milestone. Each room has doors to the other rooms and each room has its own amenities, or lack there of, depending on where you end up. Check out the picture below and let’s walk through the rooms and see which QBs are in them. (clearly I am not an artist so work with me on the drawing)

Rooms

  1. All-Time Greats: This room is a first class ticket to the Hall of Fame and the room you want to wind up in. With amenities like big screen TVs, nice leather recliners, a nice wine and liquor selection, and beginning the process of being fitted for your gold jacket. This is the most exclusive room in the house and no passerby’s get to walk through. I won’t spend much time on the guys who are in this room currently because there is not much else that needs to be said. Guys you will find sitting around telling stories in this room are: Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Ben Roethlisberger, Philip Rivers, and Aaron Rodgers.

  2. Solid Starters: Not the best place to be but certainly not the worst spot to be. In this room, you will find solid furniture, good catering, a window to check out the greats, and the opportunity to join them if you step up your play. These are the guys you will find in the weight and film room trying to reach the level of the all time greats to get a shot at the Hall of Fame. You probably already know the guys in this room: Matt Ryan, Matthew Stafford, Russell Wilson, Kirk Cousins, Dak Prescott and Carson Wentz. It’s a bummer Ryan completely blew the Super Bowl, with that ring he probably would have one foot in the All-Time Greats room. Stafford puts up great numbers but hasn’t done anything with them so he will probably be stuck here. Wentz and Wilson are both interesting and both have a shot at moving up. Wilson is an MVP candidate this year and Wentz should still have a lot of years ahead of him to move up.

  3. Has-Beens: Probably the worst room to wind up in at the house, your career has not gone the way you would have hoped and people are already moving on and looking to the next guy. Here you will find Natural Light to drink, Red Baron pizzas to eat, a couple futons, and some basic TVs with only local cable channels. Maybe the worst part about this room is it has no access to any other rooms, you can’t move up and are stuck in this hell forever. To all the kids out there, don’t become a has-been anytime during your life. Here you will find: Cam Newton, Jameis Winston, Marcus Mariota, Joe Flacco, and Andy Dalton. Like I said, it’s a grim place to be.

  4. Jury’s Out: Arguably the most interesting room in the house as these guys could go anywhere. They could work their asses off and become all-time greats, they could be solid starters, or could move into the has-been room. This area has PBR or water to drink, video games, training tools to get better, and a mixture of crappy food and good food to see who is serious about their career. This room is a proving ground, avoid the PBR, video games, crappy food and you could find yourself moving into the Solid Starters or All-Time Greats room. I am not saying these things are bad but if you are looking to be an all-time great you have to avoid these pit falls. Quarterbacks currently here are: Jimmy G, Jacoby Brissett, Jared Goff, Derek Carr, Josh Rosen, Sam Darnold, Mitchell Trubisky, and Baker Mayfield. My power ranking for this room: Brissett, Jimmy G, Baker, Darnold, Rosen, Goff, Carr, Trubisky. (Sorry Mitch I have been on your side and you are making me look foolish now)

  5. Up and Comers: When you think of the up and comers room think of a college dorm room atmosphere. You will find Bud Light, video games, and all of the young exciting guys in the league right now. This is arguably the most fun room to be in as the guys are having a good time and still learning the league. The guys you will find hanging out here are Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, Kyler Murray, Josh Allen, Deshaun Watson, Gardner Minshew, Daniel (Danny Dimes) Jones. Depending on how your career turns out, this room can lead you to the All-Time Greats or the Jury’s Out room. With all of the All-Time Greats coming down to the end of their careers these seem like the most logical guys to move into their room. Mahomes, Jackson, and Watson are all already putting up monster numbers and are even changing the way the position is being played. Mahomes just won his first MVP in his first full season, Jackson is lighting up the league with his legs and is steadily improving as a passer, and Watson is a hybrid of both. Murray, Allen, Minshew, and Jones are all exciting and are helping turn around some drab franchises.

  6. Waiting in the Wings: This room is for the guys that are about to begin their NFL careers. Whether they are a backup or still in college, the hopes are high for them. These guys should be in the workout room and watching a lot of film. They are all starting out, like the kids of football, so their amenities are Capri Suns, pigs in a blanket, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and Totino’s frozen pizza. In this room you will find Dwayne Haskins, Drew Lock, Trevor Lawrence, Tua Tagovailoa, and Jalen Hurts. Haskins has played a little bit with Washington this year but he is the guy for the future, Drew Lock should be playing for Denver this year, and teams are already tanking for Lawrence and Tua. With the right pieces, all four of these guys could have good careers and it will be interesting to see where they end up.
