Actor Draft - James

I found a picture online with the headline, “Who Would You Bring Back for 1 Final Movie?” followed by pictures of great actors who unfortunately are no longer with us. I found this picture extremely interesting and wanted to put the Going Off Topic spin on it. I came up with the idea of having a “draft” with four friends, each of them writing a blog on it, and then having each of them on the podcast for a more in-depth discussion. The following is James blog and make sure to check out the other blogs and podcasts on this topic!

Draft Analysis: I feel like I came out of this draft with the most well-rounded squad of any team. I had the fourth pick in the draft. My squad consists of Heath Ledger, Marilyn Monroe and Chris Farley. I assembled this squad purely based on sex appeal and comedic value.

Heath Ledger:

Like many of us, I was extremely distraught when it was announced that Heath had passed. I enjoyed all his films, not just the mainstream hits like A Knights Tale or Dark Knight. He brought a feel and a passion to his roles that just sucked the audience into the movie. One of my favorite roles of his and the first movie I saw him in was 10 Things I Hate About You. Then watching him go from rom-com to The Patriot to an incredibly hard-hitting story like Candy, just showed he had all the tools to be great. That’s why he was my first pick.

Chris Farley:

In my opinion this had to be the steal of the draft. I got him in the second round and avoided that first round signing bonus. Widely considered the funniest person to ever grace the stage, Farley was an easy choice. Whether he is the lead actor, support or making a cameo appearance, he makes the most of his time and the film is better for it. Films like Black Sheep, Tommy Boy, and Beverly Hills Ninja will live forever and are hilarious every time you watch them.

Marilyn Monroe:

If we are being completely honest, I have never seen a Monroe film. I picked her solely on sex appeal. What gets men to the movie theater? Action and good-looking women. Marilyn provides that and I feel like my movie can utilize all the tools she has as an actress. Not only is she one of the most beautiful women to grace this Earth, she was a damn good actress and one of the best to ever be on the screen

Movie Pitch, Say What Again:

In Say What Again, Marilyn Monroe is a down on her luck singer trying to make it in the big city. She has no place to stay and can’t seem to get her foot in the door anywhere. This all changes when she meets two brothers, played by Chris Farley and Heath Ledger. Chris Farley is a young CEO of small record label and Heath Ledger is a talent scout. When Heath spots Marilyn singing to a bunch of homeless people in an alley way, he knows she has something special. But can he convince his CEO brother to sign her to a deal? With cameo appearances from Adam Sandler, David Spade, and Morgan Freeman, strap in for this non-stop comedic thrill ride.
